As a consultant, I attend to a wide range of psychodynamic dilemmas from a Jungian and Depth Psychotherapeutic perspective while integrating an understanding of the embodied experience of both the patient and the analyst. I help therapists learn to evoke bodily-based awareness, which is useful for exploring their patients and their own conscious and unconscious somatic experiences. Drawing from trauma-informed approaches such as Somatic Experiencing and the Poly Vagal Theory of Emotion, I emphasize guiding principles rooted in the lived moment over techniques or a particular methodology.

Somatic exploration includes the significance of dropping attention down from the thinking mind into the feeling body, the patience required to join the body’s pace in contrast to the speed of thought, entering the sensory experience of the lived moment, allowing meaning to arise from direct experience, and working with the powerful psychophysical forces activated in the therapeutic dyad when working with trauma. Integrating a somatic perspective with dreams and the mythopoetic reality revealed in an in-depth psychotherapeutic process allows a tapestry of personal meaning to unfold for the patient/client that facilitates deep transformation.
