I am a training and supervising analyst member of the C.G. Jung Institute of San Francisco. Since the advent of my calling to practice psychotherapy nearly 50 years ago, it became clear to me that such an endeavor must include the body. Toward that end, I spent several decades studying and practicing multiple somatic modalities. When I dedicated my work entirely to Jungian Analysis and Depth Psychotherapy, a feeling for the body pulsed deep within and remains integral to my approach as an analyst. My analytic work is grounded in mindful explorations of bodily-based experience, including in-depth work with the psycho-physical manifestations of trauma, informed by Somatic Experiencing and neuroscience.
Additionally, I integrate a practice that explores experience along a contemplative continuum of stillness and movement, commonly referred to as Authentic Movement/Movement in Depth. Group work and cross-cultural group work employing this form are particularly rich in bringing consciousness to bear on interaffectivity––a concept that sheds light on the subtle and not-so-subtle ways we mutually influence each other and the potency of recognizing how we co-create our intersubjective field and healing that can emerge from this.
I taught in the Somatic Psychology Program at the California Institute for Integral Studies for over twenty years. I continue to facilitate seminars on being with the body in Depth Psychology and teach Authentic Movement internationally. Since the beginning of my career, this practice has shown me that a continuous thread of wisdom is revealed through the body.

Another strong current in my life has been an immersion in wilderness. In my early adulthood, I journeyed extensively through the desert, red rock canyons, and high mountains of North America, trekking, kayaking, and rafting with others. I worked as a wilderness therapist and led rites of passage groups. Intrinsic to these journeys was creating conscious community and intrapersonal exploration through dreams and active imagination in relation to the land. Immersion into wilderness continues to be an intrinsic element in my life, (including periodically leading group expeditions) and the profundity of these experiences deeply influences my analytic and psychotherapeutic practice and thinking. I see our embodied psyche as indissolubly related to the natural world.
My writings explore the relationship of body, self, trauma, and our participation with the dream of the earth and have been published in The Jung Journal, Psychological Perspectives, The Journal of Analytic Psychology, The Body in Psychotherapy, and Authentic Movement: Moving the Body, Moving the Self, Being Moved. My book Being with the Body in Depth Psychotherapy: Development, Trauma, and Transformation in the Unspoken Realm, will be available through Routledge in November 2024.
